Message from the Director
Kambiz Vafai - MSOL Program Director
Welcome to the UCR’s Online Master of Science in Engineering Program (MSOL) at the Bourns College of Engineering at University of California, Riverside (UCR). This program is designed for qualified professional engineers who are interested in enhancing their knowledge in their field of work and advancing their careers. Applications are now being accepted at https://msol.engr.ucr.edu/admissions/application.
The MSOL program is unique among competing programs in offering a well-balanced blend of core engineering management and specialization courses together with design experience. All the course material is equivalent to the traditional M.S. program but the emphasis is placed more on technical skills rather than research. Our courses are offered on campus to our traditional graduate students and are recorded on video for our online students to view at a time convenient for them. The same University of California quality is maintained in our online courses as our traditional courses. Online students also take the same exams, but at convenient off-campus locations.
The Master of Science in Engineering Online program is flexible and multidisciplinary and enables the participants to concentrate in depth on specific areas, which are most beneficial to them, or to broaden their knowledge about a variety of engineering fields. The program offers flexibility to fit within the participants’ schedule. Nine courses are offered in the program, four of which are in the area of professional core engineering management. The rest of the courses are specialization courses in an engineering concentration area.
Currently we offer nine specializations within the MSOL program. These are:
- Data Science
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering—Power Systems
- Engineering Management
- Environmental Engineering Systems (Water)
- Materials at the Nanoscale
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mobility Engineering.
Please look through our website and feel free to reach out to Student Affairs Officer Kim Love for further information. We look forward to hearing from you.
